Restoration / Re: Rally Wheel Paint

My spare had been painted but the 4 YH's on the car were original paint. The wheel back looks as described above.

Maybe they should have listed it as 1/2 X77 and 1/2 X33 and just called it a X55. Whoever gave $95.5k prob wouldnt know the difference....

General Discussion / Re: repop parts
« on: October 07, 2021, 12:27:41 PM »
After discussing this a year ago with a couple of vendors - I have been buying up parts and putting them away for anything I have- especially if the parts are manufactured overseas.

FWIW Ocean shipping has quintupled in price.  40 ft cans from china to US have increased from $4000/per to $20,000/per.

For sure can confirm this. We are unloading 18 open top sea containers this week. Machinery from Germany. We are averaging $18,500 per container. The problem is also entire ships are being pre booked by the larger corporations. Smaller parts mfg and suppliers are out even if they can get raw materials. Cant get a ship at any price. Our raw material situation is still at its worst with no improvement. I think we are in for continuing parts shortages for the foreseeable future.

General Discussion / Re: Questions about a 69 Z/28

Real style trim Z in Cortez with a blue roof and Dk Blue int would look really sharp. The wheel opening and roof drip along with the gill trim. Nice
I'd have to put an endura on it. They just look so good on 69's.

Totally agree on this. I love that color and the bumper. I built a 69 Z race car in the late 90s with that look. Had the most fun in that car than any other race car ive had.

General Discussion / Re: Matching Wheel Spoke Finish ?

Danny, I believe they are the new Americans. 15X5 front and 15X7 back. I did get a pic of the valve stem area if it helps any.

Here are the same Americans on my 69. I have always liked the old school look.

Maintenance / Re: Trans leaking
« on: August 13, 2021, 02:59:56 PM »
That's a pretty broad problem without a little more info. Really need to know if its coming from front, back or middle. Front is pump gasket or converter seal. Middle is dipstick, pan or cooler lines / case fittings loose. Back is driveshaft yolk seal. slide under it and try to get a general area that looks wet. If its all new my bet would be loose cooler lines, case fittings or he nicked the converter seal when he slid the converter on the input shaft.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 Z Block Stamp (12A Build)
« on: August 12, 2021, 12:30:42 PM »
If the block stamp, VIN and dealer invoice is fake I would assume the cert is fake also. If I were a serious buyer I would pick up the phone and call JM. We really cant tie JM and his opinion to the car until that is verified.

Have a friend looking at this car in Orlando now. What's the opinion on the tag being legit? Especially with the 720 orange houndstooth? Right off the bat I see a style trim conflict.

An odd mix of success and failures here. I have ran Mallory Unilites in all of my cars form the late 80s on and have never had 1 fail.

Restoration / Re: Original GM Floors
« on: July 28, 2021, 03:39:14 PM »
Are these really desirable? I have some of a perfect floor from the 80s.

Kevin, I need the only section this guy didn't list. Drivers side from base of gas pedal to seat to rocker. Would gladly give asking + shipping for good solid original. Would have more than his asking in Goodmark or AMD + shipping. Both would have to go in same way but Original GM ranks above Repro in any area any part in my opinion. Not a fan of Resto Mod or Repro Restorations. There is one in every garage...

At least they got the grill color and shifter ball right. Its usually a package deal when they check the dumb crook box.......

General Discussion / Re: BBC valve cover clearance with brake booster

Doubt they will fit. I had a similar set on my 68. Only had about 1/2" clearance to the booster. Yours look to be slightly taller.
