Not sure Marty but believe you have the wrong bolts with captured washer in the hinge to fender location. Or at least they look too large..... Our AIM and also the 69 I believe call out the 9301 bolt which has a 1" captured washer. In that hinge to fender location the assembly line used the same type bolt but it only had a 3/4" captured washer and only used the 9301 in the hinge to hood location. I just went through all of this on our 68 and members were helping me understand. To date I'm not even sure what the GM part # would be for it.

Welcome aboard Mike and happy hunting over the next three months searching for that 69Z!
Keep educating yourself as much as possible as there are so many made up or cars with major issues. Not meant to scare ya as there are many great examples but one has to be buyer beware.
The other thing you may want to check is the cross-ram for the street. Its done but that is not a real street friendly set up and can be aggravating for crusing. Just saw a cross-ram that is set-up nicely for the street but they changed the cam and some other small changes to achieve respectable driving ability. Just my little .02!
Happy Hunting and welcome again,

Or how about that oil cap? Genuine GM lately service replacement. Would have at least look better with taking that black sticker off as its chome underneath. Nice looking car but I would hope producers check out or have a knowlegable person assist with making sure they have good specimens for these type of shows. Maybe they should use Wayne to check things out from Chasing Classic Cars.  ;D

Good catch John..... I saw that show a few months ago and it was entertaining overall but cracked up at every Camaro with that dang caution sticker you referred to Marty. Who the heck is restoring these things? The more we learn the more we notice how incredibly wrong some of these high restoration.

Originality / Re: 1967 rear wheelhouse plugs
« on: March 18, 2012, 01:23:34 AM »
I was thinking there were two on each side of the rear wheelhouse that took the 3/4" rubber plugs and yes, they are different.
Here is a picture of an original on the right and a newer service replacement on the left. Seems to be exact same design but
no part # embossed in the rubber as originally.

Agree with Charlie & Scott! A year ago or so I carefully looked and compared two originals I have (off our 68 & 69) to a new one prior to ordering more and they sure seem to me to be the same design/material. And as one would imagine the new ones can be compressed much easier then our two older ones. Not sure what others might be comparing to but the cowl seal if compared to a door, roofrail, or trunk seal will seem much harder as it was (more dense). Thought maybe I was missing something as I do that sometimes  ;D, so I went out and compared again. I can pinch the new one so the hole in the middle is closed but not the old one and again the design seems to be dead nuts. Have no fear Marty and purchase that GM correct service replacement...........

It would have to be dead on. Its a lot of work to change out.

True but for people doing restorations it is a must know. I just finished rework on a NOS one so I could post pics of what they looked like in 1979 (when this service replacement was purchased).

Restoration / Re: Has anyone used this Trunk Spatter paint?
« on: March 13, 2012, 11:22:14 AM »
Purchased ours Mike from JerryM and believe it was around $60 qt.. He said it was the closest to the original you could purchase and believe if memory serves me Larry Christensen was the person who worked on getting it made up. Know one thing for sure, whatever you purchase, don't shake it or you will screw up all those little paint balls in there ;D

Not sure how bad your original is in but is there any chance to salvage? The NOS one we have was purchased in 79 and from storage in the attic for 10 years or so and moving 3 or 4 times it dried out and literally started to fall apart in some areas, hence my reason for starting to check on possibly purchasing a molded one but decided to give the original a shot for repair. I think it came out pretty good. Liquid Nails has one clue that is good for just about anything including cloth and rubber so did some repairs with that and the perforated nylon drywall tape and then top coated the repairs with (believe it is a new product) Rustoleum Rubber coating. I will check with Lonny at East Coast Muscle Cars to see what he knows about the molded pads or how correct they appear.......
Would think someone on here has purchased one ;D

Not sure as I have a NOS one from 1979 to place in our restoration but I did check prices and do some homework. Seems they are back ordered and Ricks was $30 cheaper even though I assume they all have the same supplier for this molded firewall pad. I've seen the non-molded pad and that one was a pretty bad choice. A restorer told me the molded pad was a fairly good one but again not sure to quality.
Good luck,

Originality / Re: NOS weatherstrip question
« on: March 09, 2012, 03:57:07 AM »
I know the original assembly line weatherstrip has the white string in it and the later version has the hard plastic piece. When the later version is installed can you tell the difference without looking at the end of it??Also has anyone had success cutting the hard plastic piece out of it???Thanks.
My assistance on this is what I have been told and observed so hopefully others will kick in with more informed info. I have the weatherstrip you are referring to and believe from looking at it once installed one would not know difference. I have been told that yes, that hard core is sometimes trimmed to assist with the trunk lid fitting down easier but was also told yea it can be trimmed but its not a piece of cake.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: bell housing date codes
« on: March 08, 2012, 03:28:03 AM »
I do not remember seeing letters on any trans I have looked at but probably have not looked at any past 69 model year.
Not sure why that part of the info is so incorrect but.........
Thought I might add the '8' on our bell housing according to JohnZ is a mold # and not model year related as I assumed at one time.
