Restoration / Reproduction Sill Plates with Rivets
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:14:27 PM »
Anyone got the repops with the rivets?  Who made them (MFG) and what do you think of them?  Post pics if you can.  I need to get a set and I know there's a few companies making them and want to get the "better" set.

THANKS!!!

So nobodies got reproduction sill plates??????  I'm gonna start a new thread for this to see if I get some opinions!!!!

Paul-Can you post a pic of each side?
My photo files are too large to post on this forum, even with the smallest image size setting on my camera.     :(

Paul, save the image to your desktop, right click/open with/Microsoft office picture manager.  You can resize by clicking picture/resize.  Choose predefined size & web large.  then just save as a different name & upload!!!  Or just use photobucket.com & copy the IMG link it gives you.

General Discussion / Re: New CRG Research Report - Seatbelts
« on: March 26, 2008, 06:50:51 PM »
Were the buckles for the shoulder belt usually just left to lie on the rear floorboard?

Usually tucked between the seat & console but they never stayed there, either ended up on the front or rear floor.  That's why everyone used to pull them out.  I've seen people screw those buckle retainers to the console & trans tunnel/floor but to me it always looked botched.
Sure am glad my 68 was built before January and didn't get the shoulder belts!!!!

Kurt, found some belts I've acquired through the years you might be interested in, I'll email you some more pics & info.

Originality / Re: rocker panel rubber flaps
« on: March 24, 2008, 06:12:50 PM »
My 12D 68 has them.  Rectangular rubber flapper that covers the hole where the water drains out from the cowl panel.  I believe ALL year Camaros have them....at least first & second Gen, never owned any newer than that!  It was called Air Dry or flow through rocker system or something like that-designed to vent pressurized air from the cowl panel down through the rockers and out that hole there by drying out any moisture that has accumulated in them.  If your rockers rotted out, it was because that hole was plugged.

I've seen them both ways too but I just always thought 1 was a repop.  Paul-Can you post a pic of each side?  What's the build date of your car?  Maybe they changed from bare to black or vise-versa somewhere along the line???

Anyone got the repops with the rivets?  Who made them (MFG) and what do you think of them?  Post pics if you can.  I need to get a set and I know there's a few companies making them and want to the "better" set.  I have to to dig out my originals and see what they look like now....Dam it, was trying to avoid that!!!!!!

70lt1z28-sorry if I just hi-jacked this thread!!!!

Here's a question, were the rivets black or bare steel (or aluminum) when they were freshly installed?

I love this site, was just going to post a new topic on this same exact subject since I just read Kurt’s new report on seatbelts and lookie here....it's already here!!!!

Sweet to see there's finally something I need right in my back yard too!!! - Thanks John!!!!!!

Do you know if he (Charlie) puts the clear protective back on the buckles too?  I don't think Ssnake-Oyl was doing that but I could be wrong & apologies to them if I am.

I'll be calling him Monday!!!!!

Happy Easter Everyone!!!

Kurt,

Just noticed something, the report says “All standard belts used the letter A for the plant code and deluxe Camaro belts used the letters C, E, & F.”  I have standard belts in my 68 and they all have the letter E!?!?

Side note too, my retractors are dated 4 weeks earlier than all the rest of the belts; 46 to 50 for all others (except 1 missing tag).  Not sure if that means anything, just thought I’d share the info.  99.9% sure the belts are original to the car as it had the original carpet in the car when I got her.

Again, Great Report-Enjoyed it thoroughly!!!

Can anyone tell me if the intake manifold vacuum fitting was painted or bare steel on a 68 L35 engine?
Thanks!

Man, your lucky you saw them first cuz I would have snached them right out of your hands!!!!
Wrapper is dated May 5 1978 and I'm pretty sure they stopped with the rivets by then but post some pic's when you get them - I hope their the real deal!!!!
