Decoding/Numbers / Re: Early Z28 block

Zeros and O's are interchanged with one another very often in stamping, there are narrow o's wide o's racetrack o's etc  I's and 1's are quite often interchanged as well.

If not mistaken, it was stated in a recent discussion on here that the screwdriver was deleted from the parts list by End of December 1966. If this is the case no L78 would have had a screwdriver.

After studying the photos going back and forth I am going to say the trucks are probably the same, IMHO there are too many similarities in the car hauling ramps and support. Even if they are different they are at different time periods for Yenko orders.

The first photo B&W includes one of each color from the first 50 X66 coded cars 10 each DY HO LB FG OG. PLUS a Garet Red or Fathom Green Yenko Nova. The one on the truck is a Daytona Yellow X66 - yellow rockers and gill trim. I have wondered aloud in Dave Beem's presence if this may be his car, which is one of the first 10 DY cars plus his was transferred by truck in the winter to Gates, Indiana and his also has yellow rockers, one of the other X66 DY yenkos has black rockers (the yet to be found much photographed drag car)

The 2nd photo has the DY chevelle and a couple of X11 cars (gill trim and wheel opening moldings are visible on the Fathom green and hugger orange cars plus the HO car has blacked out rockers.)
On the bottom row looks like a Lemans Blue Yenko Nova with dog dishes & redlines.

Does anyone know when the orders for the first Chevelles were placed?

If it is seized because of rust, that may not hurt the value too much, will probably still need bored regardless. If it is seized because the block is cracked from freezing or something else, it could very expensive to fix, if it can be? Years ago, a buddy bought a 427 block at an auction. It looked good. After together and in the car, he started getting water in oil. It had a crack looking from underside, up in cam galley area. Maybe worth fixing today, but he junked it.

I know of a 67 L71 engine which had MUCHO damage from a thrown rod, bottom of cylinder, pan rail(s) The owner took it to high end engine builder and told him if it took 3 years and 25k  he was ok with it... well 24 months and 12k later the block was solid and square without windows.
Canadian documented 67 L71 with N89 and N14, I figure 12k to keep the original block was money well spent.

The 69 Camaro Tony's Back Door race car owned by Rick George was for sale last year for the mid $50's, I was considering making a run at the car however we are leaning towards a 67 Camaro or 58 Corvette drag car to race in Southeastern Gassers.

Number of technically incorrect items.
I tend to evaluate something on how much time and how many dollars to put it back to the correct configuration.

Std bore with no ridge which will clean up without oversized pistons would be the best case scenario.
N355370?
IS the car around?

1st vs 2nd shift most likely if memory serves.
Over the years that is what I have taken from all of the discussions amongst those who would have insight into the reason for the differences as well.

Maintenance / Re: Best Way to Clean Out A Gas Tank
« on: April 27, 2022, 08:53:07 PM »
WE use a Landa Kerosene fired pressure washer... leave the wand in the tank for 20 min or so with it boiling out.
Then if any rust, some metal prep, then coat with 2 part tank sealer from POR15. We have done countless Harley tanks and 20-30 car tanks, never had a problem with any of them even with ethanol fuels.
Had bike customers who used tank liner and once it started to peel it left them stranded on the road. I do a lot of custom artwork on bikes. Strange how some of my cars have been sitting for decades have zero tank issues.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it was not you who prepped the tanks
VERY FEW laypeople are meticulous enough to correctly prep a fuel tank for coating.

My dad's original 1940 Ford Woodie wagon tank (which had surface rust inside prior to being boiled and blasted has been coated near 30 years now & Have done I cannot tell you how many bike tanks over the past 10 years NEVER once had an issue with coating failure.
As you know it's ALL in the PREP.
If I boiled them out and removed the rust without coating them, the bike would be back at the guys shop inside of 2 years with the same tank corrosion issues.

I am pretty sure 67 REAR springs were color coded with a stripe which went around the eye on the front of the leaf.

That is what I am seeing.
I see the same, which falls right in line with the Assembly date.

The 72 Buick estate wagon demonstrator my parents bought not long after I was born had fiberoptics, I will ask my dad where the lenses for the rear were located.

I’ll take 5 of those custom oil filters please. Those $900 ones aren’t good enough for my 6 cylinder engine.
At my labor rate it works out to about $300 in labor PER FILTER.

0014 block from a 73 Corvette is a Tonawanda block machined at Flint which is kinda rare... my brother's 73 L82 Corvette has that block. The blocks from the different foundries were exchanged a few times throughout the years and machined by the other in order to ensure interoperability between the foundries and machining operations.

That is odd, I can't think of a vehicle without a license plate lamp.
