Title: Door certification decal
Post by: L78 steve on October 21, 2009, 09:24:03 PM
Did the 69 Camaro get the blue drivers door cert. decal ?  04C build.  If so where is the location for it?  My 70 Nova door has stamped lines for it's location.

If you are talking about the decal that showed the VIN and date the car was complete then yes, 69 DID have it later in the production run. I dont know exactly when they started but I think it was after 04C.

The blue cert sticker was required for the 1970 model year. Camaros technically built for the '70 model year did have one; the left door shell was changed to include the stamped locating lines. Best guess for the change is 08A, roughly VIN N670000.

Thank you for the replies. I guess a replacement door would have the location lines?

Not necessarily - would depend on when the door was made.

Per the GM factory assembly manual this tag was located on the door of '69s.  If you do a search on the net there is at least one person  who can reproduce one for you if yours is missing.

Yes, that's true. But it's well documented that it was a late change in 69, not all year. Bill provided approximate timing (see above) of the change.

Out of interest how did the transition date get determined?  My copy of UPC 0 B1 is hard to read but it looks like view B (& possibly C?) were added in August 3rd '69 Revision 10.  However, item 6, the vehicle certificate, would appear to have been already on the drawing prior to Revision 9.  Is the date as per one of those earlier revisions which is not recorded on my copy? Thanks!

The certification label was added to the sheet in a change prior to change #9; those changes disappeared from the sheet when change #9 was added, as the change block had become full (only holds eight changes). Federal law required that the label be applied to all cars by September 1, 1969. The dates of changes to the sheet don't indicate the date the change was actually implemented in production - they just indicate the date the change was added to the A.I.M. sheet in Drafting.

My car, 671122 did not have the sticker on it.  I have owned it since 76, and my brother owned it before that.

Car 671208 did have the sticker.  Look on page 200 of Jerry's book (the 1993 edition).

Does your door have the stamped location lines?
