General Discussion / A BIG thank you to CRG
« on: January 28, 2012, 03:18:56 PM »
I had a great thing happen to me and had to share my story.

Just after the New Year I received an email from a guy who said he had my original dealer invoice for my early non X code 69 Z/28. I thought how great that would be but have to say I was a bit skeptical and waited a while to respond to say I was interested. I received a second email with some of the options I have on my car but the color he stated in the email was incorrect. I shot Kurt and email asking him for his thoughts on the email and he responded that is was very real and he had seen the invoice and gave Warren my contact information. This erased and doubts I may have had and I quickly contacted Warren and we made the deal and a few days later I now have the document in hand. I had a few pieces of documentation for the car but nothing like this it has the factory options listed along with dealer costs and suggested retails along with the shipping date from the manufacturer to the dealership.

I am so grateful for guys like Warren who is a guy trying to do the right thing for the hobby and guys like Kurt and CRG for having this site and the knowledge to unite the documents to the car.

If I can do anything for the people involved in this please let me know.

Thank you again Warren, Kurt and CRG!

Decoding/Numbers / trying to identify car block to find owner.
« on: December 05, 2010, 01:45:04 AM »
I have a block I was told may be out of a 69 350 SS 4 speed car but I am not very knowledgable on the numbers but am trying. If it is I sure would like to get this to the rightful owner.

Here are the numbers I have block cast L-17-8 pad is VO113HA it has the vin stamped on it also but I do not have it written down and it is in my storage unit. If it is something out of a car that may have some value to someone I would be happy to get the vin number.

General Discussion / Rough running 69
« on: October 31, 2010, 06:02:40 AM »
I am looking for a little input on my car I have a 69 Z with a 302 and pretty much all stock components carb, intake, solid lifters etc. i just got the car running this summer for the first time and have been running the Shell Rotella and a 110 and 93 octane mixture. The car has been running great and has about 1000 miles on it I live in S.D. and the temp here has dropped to aroung 50 degrees and I started it lastweekend and it started running different I noticed it does not idle at all and it seems to be running rich now and developed a slight miss when running. I did quit using the 110 mixture on the last tank so it is about all 92-93 octane pump gas now. If I start the car and run it up to 1000 rpm it seems ok but again seems to be really rich running. I have not touched the carb at all and it continues to run this way after it is warmed up. Any thoughts or suggestions?

General Discussion / Driveshaft question
« on: July 30, 2010, 09:38:11 PM »
First of all I would like to thank CRG for helping me get my 69 Z/28 running for the first time since I bought it 8 years ago!

What a blast, I owned one back in the late 70's to early 80's and this is even better than I remember.

I am having to do the usual tweaks after you start driving them, my timing cover developed a nice leak and I found my exhaust system is rubbing my driveshaft but so far that is the extent except......

While we were under my car at a local garage someone looked at the driveshaft and it seems the yoke is way out of the transmission? I measured the driveshaft from center to center and it is 49 5/8" which I think is correct but again the yoke seemes to be out a good 1 1/2" more than I think it should be.

Any comments would be welcome.

General Discussion / Aftermarket carb on 69 Z
« on: July 21, 2010, 03:00:51 AM »
I am looking for any information on a replacement carb for my 69 Z it is all stock and I am having trouble with the original Holley carb.
Does anyone know of a Edelbrock replacement I would like to run it as close as possible to the stock Holley.
I have had my original rebuilt and am having trouble with the float bowls so I will pull it off and send it to Jerry this winter but it has been 8 years since I have started this car and I want to get it running this year.

thanks

Restoration / Float bowl for Holley carb
« on: July 10, 2010, 03:44:58 AM »
I have a 69 Z with the original Holley carb, it has all been rebuilt and looks new.
The problem I have is the float bowl has a stripped screw hole so it leaks and I cannot adjust the float.

Does anyone know if it can be fixed or can I get then name of a company to get a replacement?

thanks Jim

General Discussion / Coil wire hook up?
« on: July 09, 2010, 04:11:21 PM »
Very basic question here but I am moving and all my books are packed away. Can someone tell me the hookups for the wires to the coil.

I have the one coming from the distributor I assume this goes to the neg side of coil, I also have a yellow and a fabric wrapped wire juctioned on a single terminal that again I assume goes to the positive side and a single black wire maybe for my tach that I do not know or can even guess where it goes?

My apologies for the basic question but I am kind of out here on my own right now.

Thanks Jim

General Discussion / routing of smog pump etc. hoses
« on: June 30, 2010, 01:16:29 PM »
I am in the process of moving and have all my data scattered and my car is going back together. I am looking for some answers as to how to route my hoses from my smog pump, distributor and carb. I had the picture of this when I bought the hose kit but as I said I have it packed somewhere. Could someone shoot a pic or two and send it on. I am days away from starting my car for the first time since I bought it over 8 years ago and this is holding me up. It is a 69 Z with the original 302 and I have put it back together basically stock.

thanks

Restoration / break in oil additive
« on: June 27, 2010, 01:02:01 AM »
Hello

I have read all the threads on oil for new start ups and see Jerry's comments on using the EOS product from G.M. as an oild additive to use in conjunction with the Rotella oil. My question is does anyone have any comments on the Lucas break in oil additive. My engine builder said he prefers the Lucas brand over the EOS and before I dump it in I would like to ask for opinions. Having read it I see the zinc contents and think it looks ok but......?

thanks in advance.

I am looking for some clarification for the trunk lids on 68-89 cars. I have heard 68 lids ran into 69? I looked through the threads and did not see anything I have an early 69 Camaro 10 A of 68 it seems like I rememeber something being said of tabs which mine does have now. What I would like to know is the differences in each lid if possible. Thanks

General Discussion / Am I missing something on the privacy act??
« on: February 06, 2010, 03:00:17 PM »
I have been trying to contact the state of Minnesota to get the prior owners names of my car. I am quite sure it spent almost all of its life in the Minneapolis area. I called the state of Minnesota title company and told them I was looking for names of prior owners and I had the guys name I bought it from back in 2002 but lost his name and contact info. He owned it since 1975. Anyway the guy told me how does he know I did not want to cause "Ill Will" what does that even mean?
So I am watching TV this morning and scanning channels and see a commercial for a company who can do an entire background check on somebody and this is ok?
OK I am done but can anyone shed any light on the glorious state of Minnesota and how I may be able to obtain any data from them???
I have an original 69Z pre x code car and am almost ready to hit the road this spring. My apologies to all for ranting but jeez c'mon. Thanks Jim
