looking to buy motor, wanted to confirm its not a restamp
(http://)
-
Is that a 3956618 block casting? Looks good to me, but the experts know their stuff and will no doubt comment.
-
I can see the broach marks on the block; the stamp is correct. I do not believe it's a restamp... but one needs to see the block casting no and date to be certain it's not an 'additive' stamp.
-
here are a few pics, motor was included with purchase of race car that required a 302, motor was blue until sell decided to sell and painted it orange (dont want to confuse anyone) also notice no vin stamp
-
casting date is a little hard to read, but think is c 6 9, original is easier to read when zoomed
-
also included is what i believe is a 140 cam from my research on here and on team camaro
-
There's no VIN stamp on the machined top of the block? but by that date *(March 11)... might there be one on the cast surface above the oil filter? THOSE are extremely difficult to see presence of, much less to read...

on the front pad the pic i have i can see about 80 of pad, i dont think theres enough room left on what visible for a vin, in the middle pic of reply #3 is the cast surface above oil filter, the original picture is much better than the resized one posted here but even when zoomed in as much as possible there seems to be zero evidence of any mark/stamp
-
Carefully clean the area by the oil filter with some paint remover or lacquer thinner. Do not use anything abrasive. Then take some more pics at different angles. I think I see a hint of some numbers.
-
and get some very bright light on it.. again .. from different angles... :)
-
I think the pad stamp is real.
-
will work on getting more pics of vin, but think i will move forward with purchase, thanks guys
-
Dave, good for you man. Hope it is A OK. I was wondering how to get mine to you in California if you bought it, but now I don't have to worry about it. I still need somebody to buy mine though.

Hey Gary,
just been looking for something closer to my build date, seller asked me to make him an offer, i did, not sure if he will accept, so your not off the hook yet, lol sorry for dragging this on.
i also found another motor built two weeks before my car.
right now waiting on the above motor, it might have some interesting history, i'll share after purchase or i pass.
was told uship is very reasonable and easy.
Thanks
Dave

Sounds like a plan Dave. I need to sell this block so I can afford a $1500.00 alternator for my Z. There's a 9 E 23 837 being offered on another site but man you can't catch a break in this hobby the way these prices are. The average schmuck doesn't have a chance.

yea, when you get guys hoarding DZ parts, and guys using DZ parts on there clones ::), it drives the parts for sale through the roof.
I think I'm gonna build a vintage style TA car VS original date correct&numbers car, that way i dont have to worry about date correct $$$$$ parts, just gonna try to keep as visually correct as possible.
i contacted minilite wheels and i can get a set of wheels for what your getting ready to pay for an alternator.
sorry if i offended the purist, guess im just another hoarder with some DZ parts ;)

Dave,
for 'pure enjoyment' of your car, your plan is best... :)
but you're going to enjoy driving it so much, you'd better build up your gasoline fund.. :)
-
Block is 4 days after mine. Mine has an unusual date cast of a109. It's a 661 also. My off-road am has the 141 stamp also
