Decoding/Numbers / Re: Cowl tag decode on my new mistress

Question: Looking at his body number and vin number, how could it be that my 01C car is about 800 fisher body units BEFORE this one but about 8500 vins AFTER this one? Or am I missing something?  I know the numbers could have variances due to the process but seems a bit far off.

Yes it did get a bit out of hand over there and I am not Mr. Innocent on it. I did get sucked into the argument. But the best we can do, and it's been done, is to record all the info and watch for those numbers in the future. I don't agree with what is being sold as a package because alot of people have real cars they worked hard for and on, and this is the kind of sale that lets a not so authenic car possibly slip through in the future.

As usual you guys were right. They were dated from 1972 (over the counter part?) and have been milled before. The guy selling them wanted $1500 for them. He said they needed to be checked and may need some work. Even after an attempt to clean them up they just looked beat so my friend passed on them.

So is it safe to say they are of some value? What would be a good price for them if they are from 1969  (ZL-1 or L-88)? What if they are from 1971 what would they be worth?

Here is a ragtop with that color combo. Can't see the tag but just a couple pics to look at.  http://cars-on-line.com/27617.html

A friend of mine looked at a pair of aluminum big block heads and the only number he got off them was 3946074. He also remembers the winters snowflake marking on them. Are these valuable heads and what were they used on. I know it's not alot of info but we may take the couple hour ride to look at again over the week-end. Any thoughts?

Thanks John. You are right about it being functional. It was being used in a 396 at one time before it went into the parts bin. Would have been nice to have something a bit more rare that may have had some value. How many Camaros' were made with 307 engines?

Thanks Ed. It should make a fine paperweight being from a 307.

Thanks Kurt, I have looked at that before but I seen some pics of cars with it and mine does not so I was checking a bit more.

Would a rear brake pressure regulator valve be found on all 69 Z's or was there something that triggered it on some?

Would small digits  11  be correct for an 01C build date?
