Title: 69 SS hood underhood pictures
Post by: 69 SS 350 X-55 on August 10, 2021, 10:25:49 PM
Hello all, been using search function to try to get a good picture of the bottom side of the factory 69 SS hood, from the search I understand that the 67-68 SS hoods did not have the drain holes that the 69 has. Before I drive 3 hrs to buy this hood from an individual, could someone please post a picture of the bottom side of a factory 69 SS hood that will show the correct drain holes. Hate to ask but would like to get this before Saturday, as I have committed to going to look at hood and fenders that he has for sale. I have pictures of the underside of the hood he has sent to me ,I just don't know the difference.  Pretty sure I will know if fenders are repop, but not sure of hood. So if anyone can help keep me from buying anything other than a "Factory Correct 69 SS Hood" please advise, tell, inform, keep me from my own ignorance,  SIS (Self Inflicted Stupidity), please help me buy once, cry once. Thanks in advance and good luck on all your projects.

From the Hood Report I've been working on almost forever!!

68 and 69 both had the drain holes but only 69 had the "tabs" in the inner structure (see below). The hinge "alignment holes" (also shown below) began in late May of 1968 and were used during all of the 1969 model year.

Also check the driver side (and passenger side) rear of the hood. Repops aren't correct compared to originals (again, see below). They also don't have date codes as shown in the very bottom picture.

I wish I could say it'll be done any day now, but to be honest, finding original hoods and louvers is very difficult. For example, did you know that the inner structure of the 1967 SS-350 hood is different from the inner structure of the 1967 SS-396 hood?

I still need pictures of the following:

1967 SS hood (top view without the louvers installed)
1967 SS-350 hood (inner structure)
1967 SS-396 hood (inner structure)

I have everything else so it's "almost" ready to be published save for those pictures. If anyone has an original 1967 SS-350 and/or 1967 SS-396 hood, let me know!

Ed

Woo Hoo 12 hr road trip with 3 stops 22 stamp on hood for my 05d Camaro stopped at Summit in GA and saw nice 68 Z on display. Hood is great except was stored on corners, slight damage. Thanks again to all who helped out on this. Good luck on all your projects

22 is the date code, which is the week of the year. In your case it's the last week of May.

Got the hood home, finally took out of the truck.Took the louvers out. Has the alignment hole, doesn't have the tabs or the 3 small drain holes as shown in previous pictures from Ed. Doesn't match what is shown in the 69 Camaro AIM. Had the #1 chrome ornaments L &R.H. , #3927469-70, #3 3927468 screens (2), #4 3927471-2  Plate L. & R.H., 11 of the 12 nut #9419756. Does not have the #3 3898146 Seal (2), #6 3903974 TUBE-DRAIN (2) ,that goes in the holes that are not in this hood. Still looking for a GM original hood for my 69 SS. Thanks to all. Good luck on all your projects

Not the greatest of pictures, but from what he sent me it appears he's got a last week of May, 1968 hood (week 22). These had the drain holes and the alignment holes, but not the tabs. The rubber drain tubes are missing because they rotted away and fell off. (see below).

Had to get my grandson to show me how to upload pictures. Here's a higher resolution image of the same hood from the previous image. The 3 drain holes are clearly missing but does have the alignment holes. I am unsure if my hood is a 67' or a 68' hood.
Thanks to all the guys on here for trying to help me make a decision about this hood.
Good luck on all your projects
