Title: 1968 Z28 on Bring a Trailer
Post by: rocco376 on October 11, 2023, 11:39:49 PM
This stamp looks like a mess to me.  Is it legit?

I parked near this Car at a Local (Tacoma) Fircrest Car show in Summer of 2021.  I looked at it briefly and did not get much history on it but a few photos.
Neat Car, but the Grotto Blue for me was tough, Lemans is a show stopper and a classic Z  hue, I know Subjective and not trying to put colors of cars down.

The paint removal could be better…. Looks like the numbers align…I wonder if Jerry has it registered?

The stamping is not consistent with others in that timeframe.

I had an original paint 68 camaro Grotto Blue. That Grotto Blue has been doctored up when it was mixed. For the better IMO.

Exactly.. Big hardware store rivets. Tag has been removed at one time? He got a good price for it. I wonder if that POP was legit. Oh well, gone now. New owner problem... D

I don't see anything wrong with the VIN tag, rivets, or how it's mounted. The dashpad however, should be covering the back of the rivets. Thats a dashpad issue.

Oh, I see... I know you should not see the rivets. So the dash isn't pulled over far enough? Are those rivets correct GM?... D

why someone would get rid of the glove box sticker to replace with a new one.  There is so little to authenticate a 68 z to begin with. Get a junkyard glove box door and keep the original for documentation. With the engine not right, it puts into question the protecto plate. what little I see of that, it does look convincing (but not seeing the blacked out portion means maybe the person is still alive on the car, which could be good).  Probably would say that engine was blown years ago.  But if that person said it is a real Z, then someone did good enough in that buy.

Rivets should be the rosette type, installed from the bottom, so you can't tell in this picture.

The shorter dash pad is the cheaper reproduction (I have one because in 1994 it was the only one available). However, I believe the rivets should be painted as well.
