General Discussion / Barrett Jackson today - Gas Moneky COPO...
« on: January 30, 2016, 05:03:53 AM »
Watching B-J auction tonight, while going thru emails, and noticed they auctioned off SN 001 and SN 002 of the 2014 CRC COPO Camaros.  I think these were sold as 'incomplete cars' and were finished by their buyers.   SN001 was 'finished' by Richard Rawlings Gas Monkey Garage and went for $70K...  SN002 was finished by a different shop (not sure which) and it went for $85K...    Richard was looking a bit downcast..  as I giggled...  :)   (Sorry, couldn't help myself)... :)

Garage Talk / HAPPY NEW YEAR~~ 2016!
« on: January 01, 2016, 03:31:55 PM »
Happy New Year to all the CRG Camaro enthusiasts...  May 2016 be better than 2015, and all prior years~  May we all achieve our goals with our Camaros and other important aspects of our lives!

In cleaning up parts under my shed this week, in addition to find some Camaro Ralleys that I mentioned in another post, I also found a driveshaft.. which I've identified as the original one from my Camaro.  I think I posted before in the driveshaft thread that I'd cleaned and painted my original driveshaft, but I was wrong (I think that driveshaft was from my Nomad).  It's a PITB to have multiple cars disassembled!  :)

Anyway, as previously stated .. for the past couple of years I've been going thru the various parts/subsystems of my '69 Z28-RS, cleaning and making sure they function properly after 35 yrs of storage; repairing where necessary and *preserving*, as I'm trying to keep my car *unrestored*, but I want it to be totally functional and when I 'touch' a part, I do want to treat it so it will last.   In regards to this driveshaft..  it is covered in dust/surface rust.. so I immediately stopped at Harbor Freight and purchased a couple of gallons of EvapoRust and at Lowest to purchase the PVC tubes, caps, etc to do the 'derusting' operation (I hope to do it this weekend).

I'm curious...   If I do this (clean the rust off the driveshaft) I will want to preserve the appearance and minimize new oxidation by coating somehow..  What do you fellas recommend based on what I've said are my goals for the car?

Once it's cleaned, I'll post some before/after photos in the 'Driveshaft Study thread...

PS.  two gallons of EvapoRust ($60), 5' length of 4" PVC ($10), end caps for pvc ($8 ea)...  so putting together this 'driveshaft derusting chamber' cost about $85...

Originality / found DF wheels
« on: December 04, 2015, 02:40:42 AM »
In cleaning up under my shed today, trying to get to a 1957 283 engine for a friend, I came across a lot of parts I had misplaced/lost track of/etc...   including 3 1968 DF wheels... At one time, I had 4 or 5 of these wheels, and the other two may be under the shed also... I've more to clean up yet.

I don't like to sell things, but I don't need these and don't plan to buy another '68 Z.  I'd rather make them available to CRG members.  If you can use a few March '68 DF wheels, PM or email me and propose to trade me something that I might use...for my '69 Z, '69 Corvette, 55-57 Nomad, 72 El Camino.. etc...  I'll check and see if I have more than 3...
PS.  I also found at least one XN wheel which I think is a 14x6 rallye.

General Discussion / Just noticed an auction for you original BB guys
« on: December 01, 2015, 03:57:28 PM »
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121827943402?item=121827943402&viewitem=&vxp=mtr

Original (low mileage) rods and pistons (std) from a 396/325...   At BIN of $99+$59 shipping, I'd think the original rods would be worth that much to a BB fella....?

Is anyone else having issues with the above features not working since the last update (a couple of months ago)?   Since then, I have to go thru each forum searching for new posts/replies, as these time-saving features are not working for me now...

Foreign Camaros / History of foreign assembly from domestic parts
« on: October 21, 2015, 02:33:16 PM »
This forum is for foreign assembly of Camaros, but I just viewed a video of a barn find (26 old cars in Denmark) which noted that even as far back as Model A (Ford) days, it was a standard practice to ship the complete parts list of parts from the US to foreign assembly plants (to satisfy trade and tax laws)..

https://www.yahoo.com/autos/s/26-classic-cars-unearthed-danish-barn-190019964.html

And of course during first gen Camaro times, Chevy shipped parts to various countries for assembly into the finished cars as documented in prior threads in this forum.

Note:  In most modern times, that process has worked in the other direction, as the first Japanese cars assembled in the US were assembled from parts shipped from Japan (thru Hong Hong to skip taxes in both the US and Japan)...
