Title: 3972116 Intake
Post by: mopar346 on November 23, 2010, 02:11:32 AM
Picked up an intake today, 3972116. What did I buy and what's it worth?

Thanks, Kevin

The following information was obtained through a Google Search.  It is unverified:

"...The 3972110 is a production 1970 only intake for Corvette, Yenko Nova and Z28 Camaro with 350ci 360-370 horse motors. This intake has no hole in the front for the oil filler tube. These are date coded underneath the oil splash shield on the bottom.

The 3972116 is a near identical intake. However this intake is a service replacement or over the counter part.  Meaning this manifold was not used at the factory assembly line. While it looks correct these intakes will have a later date codes on them underneath the oil splash shield on the bottom. This intake also has a oil filler hole in the front which is mostly capped with a freeze plug."

If this information is accurate, the manifold would probably be less desirable to a restorer than the 110 casting #.  In practical use, it should perform just as well.  It's worth what you paid for it if you can find a buyer who wants it as badly as you did.

Actually not selling it, bought it for use. I knew it was a factory performance piece, I did not know it was an over the counter unit. I was told it was the 70 Z/28 and Corvette 370 HP unit, I thought it was higher than the one on my 69 Z but that was a few years ago, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Paul, I only paied $75.00 for it and it is nice, although the driver's side coil bolt hole is slightly damaged. Looks like I did OK.

The 116 intake was never installed on a factory 302 or LT1.  I have a chapter on these intakes in my Camaro fact book along with detailed photos.  They were service replacements.
