You can have the tach repaired.  I sent mine to "Gary the Tachman" and it has worked fine for decades.   www.tachman.com

Thank you for the link. I might just send the tach off over the winter and get it checked out.

Are you still using points or an aftermarket electronic ignition module?
My 67 tach displays approximately 150 RPM's higher than what the engine is running at but its movement is smooth at all RPM's and using points.
Recently I had intermittent stalling and when it was running between stalls the tach would be bouncing and way off in RPM's vs. motor speed. I eventually found the cause to be a loose post nut on the coil that went to the points.

On the advise of a post here I switch to this breakerless ignition.

Seems to work rather well.

I can understand a couple hundred RPMs but but spinning up to 7k when it's probably closer to 4500 seems a bit much.

Maintenance / Tach accuracy

I noticed that the factory tach in my 67 spins crazy numbers that I know aren't accurate. IE it will spin up to and past the 7k mark.

Is there anything to check or something to look at the fix the accuracy of the tach?

Upon the recommendation from a user here, I installed this conversion. So far, it's been doing just fine.

First time I noticed the cylinder looks pretty rough and it's already .40 over.

Tim -

Any chance you still have the cowl grill off your car?  When I had the bodywork done on my car with the intent of adding factory air, I had a new firewall welded in, but didn't know about the cowl plenum valve and the cut-out needed to install it.

Any chance you - or anyone else reading this - has some accurate measurements for that cut-out on the top of the cowl?  I'm going to have to make that cut myself and would like to get it in the right spot and the right size!  I've seen one set of photos that give a pretty good picture of where it's located, but if possible, would like some real measurements.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Dale

Sorry, I don't. I put it all back together shortly after this post.

Maintenance / Hot air into car when HVAC off
« on: July 01, 2021, 09:25:04 AM »
67 with factory air

Once the engine is at temp, I get hot air into passenger compartment when the system is in the off position. I have to assume the blend door before the heater core is not sealing complete or the door is out of adjustment. The air is coming out of the vents and not through the firewall.

Is there any other reason this would happen?

Thanks!

Sounds like a lot but that works out to about 12 cancelled orders per dealership in 1969. Camaros sold well, dealers wanted deep inventory to sell from. So they ordered more than the plants could build. This is from a Zone letter dated November 6, 1968.

There were of course other reasons; incorrect orders, customer cancellations. The data I have to work with reveals several large gaps in body numbers, which was also the dealer order confirmation. Appears on several occasions, they cancelled thousands of confirmed orders. I believe a similar situation occurred with the C8 Corvette launch.

Upon receiving this notice, every dealer in the country immediately orders 25 more Z28s!!

From the ad:

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 "X77" code car.

N553571 was final-assembled on or about December 3, 1968. X77 tag has an 03D date, 4th week March 1969. One or both tags are not original to the car.

What is the maximum allowable time difference between body cowl date and the on or about assembly date? I was told it can be as much as 120 days apart from each other. Is this not the case?

Great story.

Wouldn't it be great if they had continued using those trim tags!

That's the first thing I thought when I saw the LA3 car's trim tag!! I mean, PRO codes on the tag!!

Original Muncie shifter is in it, but just a T handle. I held the original Shifter ball in my hand, it's bagged... Danny

You probably shouldn't hold another man's ball. :D
