General Discussion / Re: 1969 Daytona Yellow Z on ebay
« on: October 11, 2012, 03:10:24 AM »
Looks like a great car to me, but I'm partial to Yellow Z's (had 4 of them including one now.) No louvers on the rear quarters yet it has the moldings on the wheel wells, but no big deal.
I would say it is at the right money now but sometimes it's not worth arguing over a few thousand to get the right car.
I love the black vinyl top on this color but this car has a "stance" that does look great!

I had looked at a car locally in Illinois a number of years ago that was Dusk Blue and was featured in a Car Magazine. The seller had bought the car from a guy in New York and had a copy of the magazine included in the sale.
The block vin number was crisp and bright like the pictures you posted.
This particular car was also rear ended and was very poorly repaired and quite obvious with a peek into the trunk.
I passed on that one to say the least even though I love Dusk Blue.

What state is this car located in?
Is it Dusk Blue or Lemans Blue?

I don't have any pictures of a vin number and the trans was never out when I owned it.

I was told by the the guy on the title as mentioned earlier in this discussion that the trans for this car ended up in a station wagon. I never identified what the actual trans was and didn't care since it wasn't the original anyhow.
Maybe someone else can chime in on this one.

Kurt,

Here is a link to the current owner's website.

There are pictures posted including the Trim Tag.

I owned this car for 13 years and was told that story from the guy I bought it from. The title I received when I bought the car was never put in that sellers name and had the previous owners name on it.
I contacted that owner in July of 2007 and had a nice conversation with him. He verified that the previous owner had stripped off all of the good parts but that he always new it was an original JL8 car. He did not know what a POP was so if this was kept with "all of the good parts", it is certainly plausible that the POP and parts were reunited with the original car as this story goes on to say.
I sold the car last year thru Volo to John Cena, WWE wrestler who sold it this summer with a few other cars to a Exotic car dealer in Naples, Florida.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Z28 on eBay, White Nice.. Real??

Price seems high for a non dual carb cross ram JL8 car. It does look nice and clean. I am no expert on the cowl tag, but the ad does say it is a numbers matching car. You need to inspect or photograpgh the engine stamp pad, trans bellhousing, and body under the passengers side cowl to verify that the hidden VIN are real #'s matching car and not a restamp.

Where does it state that this is a JL8 car?
Reproduction tag for sure.

General Discussion / Re: REAL nice Gold Z/28 on eBay, Cowl Tag Correct?

Fake.
No D80 in January among other things wrong with it.

It's got a fake tag.  Lots of stamps look to be "modified", angled headrests on an 01C car, Guage cluster with no clock, all kinds of little nits.  Kind of throws the whole car into question, doesn't it?  123479N587627 for the record.

Definite fake tag and suspicious looking stampings.

Here is a comparison of the Ebay Pace car rear axle stamp and mine on my LA Pacer.

They look pretty identical. My pic is the second one.

My car is a 04B and his is a 04C build date but they are very close in unit production numbers.

Restoring this car will be expensive and when done the new owner will have a 350 pace car with no docs and a non original motor.

Probably worth somewhere in the 30's. At 12k, he should take that and run with it.

No bargain here.

Maintenance / Re: Quarter Window Adjustment
« on: November 26, 2011, 01:39:29 AM »
I have had the same issues and it was the roller.

It could be loose or broke. In my case it was loose and the roller was moving around on the glass causing it to jam up.

They make a special tool to tighten the washer nuts to the glass.

It has two prongs on it and is relatively inexpensive.

It's best to take ou the window and inspect off the car.
