Have a original 1968 SS 396 automatic that we bought in boxes. However the original owner "lost" some small parts duyring the breakdown. My question is on a 1968 396 with a TH 400 trans did it have a electric kickdown switch mounted to the carb or was it a vacuum line like the TH 350? How can I tell? Any help is appriciated.

Electric = part #1993388. You should see the electrical connector to the detent solenoid on the left side of the transmission.

See Section M40, sheets A8 and A9 in your '68 Assembly Manual for installation and adjustment of the kickdown switch.

Thanks, any idea were I can get one of the switches?

Original ones are kinda hard to find. I see them on e-bay once and a while. I believe rick's has a repo of the original along with the bracket.

They run between $75 on the low side and $150 on the high side. Also need to make sure you have the correct bracket for the switch. The q-Jet and the Holley each had a different bracket. Just FYI ... Not a cheapy part.

Paul,
The 69 copy is bound.
And I wanted to fix John's excuse of not anwering a 67/8 question cause he didn't have those AIM's. :) Helped that I didn't have to ship them.....
