Originality / Re: Looking for another decal project to consider

Talked on the phone with rat-pack tonight.  It's been years since we've talked, but he is still a "motormouth"  :)  He certaihnly seems to have a wealth of knowledge on Camaros.

We're going to be tossing around a few things I guess.  We'll see where it all leads.

rat pack - Spring tags is the exact reason I got into this "dacal" stuff about 9 or 10 years ago.  When I was searching for spring tags for my F41 69 Chevelle there were none available.  The suppliers, and producers of them, only had tags available for the more common cars.  A GM bulletin I have indicates a total of 9 different front springs and 7 different rear springs available for 69 Chevelles.  Seems to me I saw something regarding 69 Camaros and they had even more.

Anyway, I made up my own spring tags for my 69 Velle.  The word started to get around and I ended up doing lots of them for fellow Chevelle enthusiasts.  Most of them were similar to my situation wherein the codes they needed were just not available elsewhere.  Then the Camaro guys started asking for them and I have done numerous of those as well.

Keep in mind my research was done for Chevelles.  Any Camaro input has come from the owners themselves as far as codes, numbers, colours, etc.  Mine are obviously not in the form you refer to as far as "texture" of the product.  Mine are done on peel off backing paper and are sealed on the surface with clear 3M vinyl.  Somewhat glossy yes, but maybe not as much as what you are referring to.  Also, the fonts were taken from original Chevelle tags way back when.  I use the same fonts for the Camaro tags which may, or may not, be correct based on some of your input.

Here is a picture from my website of the first Camaro springs I did years ago.  My templates are such that any colour of print and background are available. Just thought I would give a little history on the ones I do.

I've forgotten Don, do you have the correct 68 Z28 Emission decal?

No I don't Chick.  That is one we would consider looking at as mentioned to start this thread.  Do you know if the code for that one is "P"?  If so, I have two pictures on file, but they are nowhere near good enough for us to work with.

That one is done, go to my website for the information.

We have done three Tire Pressure decals for 69 Chevelles - BC, DC & DL.  I wouldn't think any of those would be the same for the Camaro.

We could consider looking at the more popular ones - Z/28 & SS for example - if somebody can provide quality pictures of originals.

We would like to take a look at another decal project where the repro is not accurate or one that is not being made at present.

I have had some requests for the 68 Z/28 Emission Decal, but do not have a high resolution, quality picture to work with.  If anybody could provide such a picture we could take a look at doing it.

I have also had requests for the 69 Camaro Jacking Instructions Decal.  I have no idea how many different ones were made for that year, but I would assume several.  We may consider looking at the most popular one (EG - most widely used) if somebody can provide a picture.

Thanks.

Any chance you will reproduce the correct one for the later cars.  I have an 8A Z.

Not at this time.

OK.  for those of us who do not know your website? or how to order?  or how much?   :)   Can you help?
I really didn't want to use this thread as a "classified" forum, but yes I can provide that information.  They are $8 including shipping.  The link is in "The Blue Beast" url in my signature below or you can go here and follow the "detail decals" links.

Happy to report this project is completed.  Below is a picture of our product against the original.

In addition to all the usual spacing, alignment and font errors on the available repros, there are a couple of little things to point out here.  First, on the sixth line from the top where it has “1/4” take note of the angle of the “/” in the original.  Now look at the repros shown in my first post in this thread.  Second, take a look at the bottom two Red lines where the “degree” symbol is shown.  On the original this symbol is extremely large and not really positioned near the top of that character space as you might think it should.  Now look at those repros again.  Is this being “really” picky?  I guess, but you might as well make it as correct as possible.

Information is on my website below for those still interested in this item.

Thought it prudent to provide an update.  Received the first draft from Shaun tonight and it is really good.  I noticed just a few items which hopefully he can adjust.  With any luck we may have the finished product next week.

By the way, it was Chick who sent me pictures of the original 69 Z Emissions Decal as noted in my first post.  Thanks buddy.

Oaklyss - The picture of the decal you posted is not "completely" left justified for line three, but rather it is in between the two other pictures posted during this thread.  Also, did you notice yours has that "S" at the end of line one?

Marty - I do not recall that thread and I don't believe I ever posted in it.  To be honest, we have been approached on occasion to do the odd one of those, but there just isn't the kind of demand necessary to warrant the R & D hours put into some of this stuff.  I remember getting a request to do one for some mid 70's Camaro and due to lack of interest I mentioned to him the cost would be between $50 and $100 as we probably wouldn't sell another one.  Not surprising he declined.  Somewhere along the line we did one of these and the picture of what we did is below.  Don't remember what year or model it was for.  If I recall the owner was upset as the repros had the three upper insignias centered from left to right and not offset to the right like the original.

Just so people will know, we will be replicating the decal shown in my first post on this thread.  Really don't see us doing several varieties of it to suit the various "left justified" shown in the various pictures. I will post when it gets completed.

When do you anticipate they'll be ready? And, have you gained any ground on the early addition '69 black decals we discussed on a previous thread?

Time frame is uncertain Marty as we only fiddle with this stuff in our spare time when we have some.  Those 68 jack decals we just finished took 4 or 5 months to get right.  However, they are a lot more intricate than an Emission decal.

Can you please elaborate on the "69 Black Decals" you are referring to.  Do you have a link to that thread?

I wonder if there was more than one source, or a NOR LOS difference.

Mike

I can't answer that one Mike.

Nice job Don, now to confirm if these are original or not. Some other examples of low mileage cars I have seen, line up the third line with the bullet numbers. I wonder what John Z has on his car.

Mike

Interesting Mike.  Of all the pictures of original 69's sent to me (DZ-L35-L34-L78) none of them have the full "left justified" for that third line.  Jerry's book page 48 shows a "diagram" of a CF decal that way, as does page 159 for a "diagram" of the CG decal.  Also on page 159 is a pic of an "original" CH that is not left justified for line 3.
