Do we know what the finish was on the metal dash top between the pad and the windshield on 1968 Camaros? Thanks... Danny

Lacquer with a suede additive to knock down glare.

May I suggest, proceed with caution using the suede additive. We had a lot of difficulty doing my dash top (this was in 2013 using now-discontinued PPG lacquer formulae). The first batch of paint, mixed per the 'cookbook recipe', sprayed up way too rough. I described it then, as approximating the texture of around 120-grit sandpaper. The original cars we were comparing to*, had a texture more like 600-800-grit sandpaper. We tried, unsuccessfully, several iterations of tweaking the mix, and different application techniques. My painter (30+ years exp) eventually got fed-up with the trial & error, and did it his own way when I wasn't around... It came out GREAT! (like 'judges liked it' great!)
*Our benchmark textures were noted from 1967 LOS cars. I don't know if '67-'68 and/or LOS/NOR may differ (others may know?).
It's possible our problems might have been due to expired product? Maybe the suede gets old sitting on the paint shop shelf (along with the lacquer base) for decades?? I'm not a paint expert & can't say. I just know we sprayed-up at least 4 rounds of trial & error before my painter threw the instructions out the window.
Hope this helps...?

I had successfully applied SEM texture OEM GM Sound Deadening Pad 10-Pack, aerosol version to my interior heater duct and lightly top coat black.
could this same product be carefully used on the dash?

Danny, I used VHT Black Wrinkle paint - worked / looks great. It's meant for that application also. Its grainier than wrinkled. Buy a can and do a test - it's worth a shot to check out.
