Title: CRG Data Base
Post by: camaroman1969 on January 20, 2013, 03:00:16 AM
Ed, Could you check your "data base" and see if my VIN # is in it??  If it isn't, could you let me know how it can be added??  Here's my 1969 Camaro's Vin # 124379N611808.   Thank You!   Don

It's in there - it was on ebay in 2002.

Is this data base, mentioned above, only for the high performance camaros or is it for everyone produced and still alive?

All cars, from the base 6 cylinder with no options to the ZL1

Some data comes from dealer documents; no way to know if a car still exists. Some undoubtedly do not.

maybe i missed a memo, Is the data base visible by current members? Who keeps all the information? if your car is in the data base what are the benefits? Can an owner learn anything about their car? I was curious about my motors stamping one time and Kurt was able to say it was the correct original stamp and provide a picture, but when I asked for my info, I never got a response. Did he get this from the data base? what is the big secret of where the info comes from if I am the owner of the car? maybe I am still missing something here?

The database isn't made public because of all the personal information in it. You can imagine the field day the shysters would have loaded with this info! The cars are entered by Daniel (he does the 67's), myself (I do the 68's) and Kurt, who does the 69's, and is also the main database coordinator. And not everyone in the CRG MEMBERSHIP (http://www.camaros.org/aboutcrg.shtml#Members) has access. This may sound strange, but keeping personal information personal, is job one, so only a few people actually have access. Data can be extrapolated if someone needs it for, say, a report they're writing, but again, the only way to get accurate data without having to worry about comprimising personal data is to keep it close to the vest!

As for benefits, every data point we have is used to create not only the reports we write, but the rest of the information we post on the site. We have almost 19k entries, so we have a pretty good idea of how these cars were manufactured.

However, we DON'T validate or authenticate cars. There are others that do that for a living and frankly, we just don't have the time to travel back and forth doing this. We're all volunteers and even this takes up a lot of time!

Question regarding the data base: is there any plan to do some statistical analysis when enough data points exist? Sort of like Jerry M's 67 Z/28 analysis? Like you need more to do, sorry!

We already have Jim. Things like the percent of EXTERIOR COLORS (http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#ColorPercentages), percent of INTERIOR COLORS (http://www.camaros.org/interior.shtml#intcolors), etc...

http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=5444.0 also explains the db.

Also, I'm running 12,000-13,000 emails a year. I don't always answer them all....................

Kurt,
Well You actually answered my email about the engine stamp, you were just very cryptic or non responsive when I inquired about any other info or where the information was obtained. I would think the owner of a Camaro that is in the data base would be privy to the information on his or her car. That person may learn something about there car that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to find out.

I wasn't being cryptic, I just didn't reply. Sorry.
Data came from car being for sale in 2008, when you bought it.

Thank you, I appreciate the response. I was hoping you may have had info prior to my purchase, when the original owners wife sold it in late 2007. I was curious how much it sold for then. Other than VIN number and motor stamp, is there any other info on each car that is kept in the data base?

I've given out the format to many people, no secret. Source data, VIN and tag data, drivetrain data, RPO's, POP data, docs, notes including components, pics.
In Excel.

OK, nice!
But if I want to see what info there is on my car, what do I do?
And if there is more info needed from you to complete my car, can you tell me what´s missing then? :)

Thanks Ed, I guess I was hoping for a 69 Z/28 breakdown similar to Jerry's on the 67's. If there approx 2,000 of those in the data base (10%) it could be done, I think? Wonder how many are in the data base. No reply necessary, I'm just the curious type.

Contact Kurt off the forum if you need to know what he has on your car. We won't publish it here on a public forum.
