69 Camaro grill repair
« on: May 08, 2024, 02:18:17 AM »
I just had a piece of my grill break off. It is a vertical slot and it is at the top center right by the hood latch handle. I have the part but I'm not sure how to fix this.

Model glue.  There's a company called Tamiya that makes a liquid glue in a small glass container with a handle / brush that works great.  Put the piece that broke off back in place an brush the glue on both sides at each break and let it sit.  Done.  Been there done that.

I used JB weld to rebuild my grill and was able to recreate missing chunks with a little masking tape as forms.

I have done both of these types of repairs and both work great.  In the event of the broken pieces are too small the plastic JB Weld is the better option.  Post back before and after photos along with the process you chose.  Good luck.

The piece near the hood latch can be glued back on but first time you forget about it being glued it is back in you hand again.

Nice.  To smooth out the JB weld, I use a dremel with a carbide cutter, then follow up with some fine sand paper on a square wood stick.

2P-10 Adhesive. Plastic or wood. Lightening fast when using the activator. Anybody who builds furniture knows about it. You'll rip a piece of wood apart before the bond joint fails, somewhat like panel adhesive in our auto biz. JB weld can work. There are many choices in the auto repair and other industries.
